Pull them off the backing slowly. Make sure that they are all sticking to it correctly.
If not, lay them back down in same position and rub them down hard but not so hard that you damage them.
The edge of a credit card works well.
Try not to touch the sticky side as much as possible. Make sure you wash your hands first to prevent oils getting on the sticky side.
